It’s stupid early on a Saturday. Time for some spaced out hip hop.

If you’re the kind of person who can’t survive on rapping with only paper thin production under it, no matter how good the emcee is, Dark Time Sunshine is for you. It’s a perfect mix of the direction instrumental hip hop is going and playful, compelling vocals. These guys can’t fool me, I can see the geeky slant to their lyrics and the spaceship beeps and boops bouncing across their tracks. I’ve heard this style of really creative, moving production and risk-taking, underground rapping called “hipster hip hop” but I defy this notion! It’s too sci-fi, too complex. And, everything about these guys is thoughtful, humorous and earnest without being pandering or nerdcore. As your resident dorky music blogger, I’m inviting them to our table. And, we’re just going to ignore that I hang out with the hipsters every Wednesday after school, okay?

Okay. So, you can actually get a couple free tracks from their website here. They’re also doing live shows and junk, so I’d get all about that if you’re in the area.

Dark Time Sunshine is great! Woke up late in the afternoon and today is the first day of sunshine after weeks of Silent Hill in my area. Stood behind my window in the sun. Perfect soundtrack.
