Computer Magic – Teenage Ballad High School
Computer Magic – About You
In the Minecraft Mix, I included two Computer Magic songs that actually seemed to go over very well, so I thought I’d introduce the music to you properly. Created by Danz who categorizes herself as “a Disk Jockey, graphic designer and avid fan of old VHS tapes”, Computer Magic combines really beautiful vocals and unique, perhaps even experimental electronic sound. I’m actually really impressed with how layered she made each song. There’s typically something new I can focus on each time I listen, which keeps everything very fresh.
Some of the songs like “Teenage Ballad” have a much more present lo-fi, indie rock vibe, but it still sounds like something that could play at some cyberpunk cafe. I have to say my favorite track (besides “Running” which was on the Minecraft Mix) is “About You” since it’s sweetly tragic and though the lyrics are simple, they’re incredibly relatable and unpretentious. All their songs actually remind me of something an awkward teenager would listen to in their room while trying to figure out how to ask a boy to some lame party. It’s also my official train music.
As an aside, I can’t help but be attracted to the sense of humor and obvious interest Danz seems to have in all things space nerd. The Computer Magic facebook page has “background noise, breakquest, reverb, spending time, large hadron collider, warp drive, the empire” as listed interests. How could you not love that? Check out the band page, her blog and a bunch of free tracks.

Space. You had to mention space, didn’t you. My only weakness. Now I have no chance but to check that blog out.
You cruel, cruel person.
Hmm. Not a big fan of the vocals here (petty, I know), but the music itself is easy listenings. I can see why it’s your official train music, assuming that means the thing I think it means.
This is good stuff! I’m downloading her two EPs now.
“Victory Gin” sounds similar to Small Black’s more 80s-leaning songs. Which reminds me that I need to re-listen to New Chain soon.
Something about that last song feels so chilly. Chilly enough to surpass even the coziest of sweaters.
This is excellent stuff. I enjoy having music to play while surfing the web and now I see your tastes will suit me quite well. Too bad my internet connection is too poor to allow me to view more than one website at once.
